About
Nawat is a personal passion project born from a simple gap: Oman has one of the most geometrically sophisticated built traditions in the world, but no codified design language to draw from. Nawat turns that architectural logic (fort construction, mosque tile geometry, historic urban planning) into a usable, referenceable visual system for contemporary Omani designers to build on.
Challenge
Problem: There was no existing framework translating Oman's architectural geometry into something designers could actually apply. Without it, anyone working with Omani visual identity either borrows from generic "Arabian aesthetic" template or starts from scratch every time.
Solution: Built a complete bilingual design system rooted entirely in specific Omani sources, not a generalized Arab aesthetic, but one traceable back to real buildings. The Najma pattern derives from an 8-point star found in Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque's tile work. Typography follows strict bilingual hierarchy rules. Eight custom icons codify pillars of Omani cultural life using flat geometric forms only, following Islamic design tradition.
The motion system builds on this foundation: the logo and pattern animate outward from a single base point, and a pulsing "heartbeat" motion on the Najma pattern echoes the project's emotional core, a love for Oman
Results
A full bilingual brand and design system: logo suite, color and type systems, an 8-icon set, the Najma geometric pattern, motion guidelines, and real-world applications across posters, the Nawat rule book cover, signage, and an ink stamp.
